| Blind athlete Rob Matthews has won 29 international gold medals, 9 silver medals and 6 bronze medals. He has set 22 world records and been awarded with the MBE by the Queen for Services to Sport for the Disabled. His autobiography ‘Running Blind’ is inspiring and funny and it has reprinted twice. Rob has skied cross-country in Norway, cycled thousands of kilometers around Europe and New Zealand, driven a racing car and plays golf, football and cricket. Now Rob’s focus is the London Paralympic Games in 2012, which will be his 8th Paralympic Games, and his first competing for New Zealand. Born with a degenerative eye condition, Rob has been blind since the age of 20, but this has been no problem to Rob who has achieved success beyond most people’s wildest dreams. Rob is also an accomplished motivational speaker whose insights into how to succeed in the face of the greatest challenges is nothing short of inspirational. I know that I wouldn’t have achieved half as much as I have if I had lived a normal life. Going blind forced me to focus.
