| Rob Matthew’s view is not that he is blind, it’s just that he can’t see. He has won 29 international gold medals including eight Paralympic gold medals. He has set 22 world records and won a silver medal for New Zealand for the first time in September 2009 at the World Triathlon Championships. Rob has received an MBE from the Queen. He has cycled around the world, driven a racing car at high speed; he skis on snow and on water, and plays golf, football and cricket.
Born with a degenerative eye condition, Rob has been blind since the age of 20, but this has been no problem to Rob who has achieved success beyond most people’s wildest dreams. His autobiography ‘Running Blind’ has been published by HarperCollins NZ, it has been reprinted twice since its launch on 1st October. He truly lives by his motto: Anything is possible if you set your mind to it. |

I choose not to let my disability stop me from doing anything. I know that I wouldn’t have achieved half as much as I have if I had lived a normal life. Going blind forced me to focus. This is the first time in New Zealand publishing history that an adult non-fiction title has been printed in Braille at the same time as print. |
